Meet Clarence, a young gardener’s apprentice with an appetite for flies and mischief. Clarence was just a seedling when he first discovered his talent for gardening, especially hunting all the pesky greenhouse pests. He has grown taller and stronger on a steady diet of buzzing flies, moreish moths and crawly caterpillars – gardening is easy when your are a growing Peckish Plant!
The instructions are written in US crochet terms. There are step-by-step photos detailing how to make the pieces and finish the toy. Clarence is around 27cm/10.5in tall when made in DK weight cotton with 3mm hook.
The plant is made in sections, some are joined together with crochet seams and some are joined-in as you go. The pot is made in one piece, with a folded over lip, reinforced with stabiliser. The body of the plant is later slip-stitched into the pot. The head is made up of 2 halves and a mouth, these are joined together as you go, around the mouth piece. Lips are worked directly from the mouth after the pieces are joined. To allow the plant to have more expressions pipe cleaners are added into the lips before they are closed with a crochet seam to the inside of the mouth. Pipe cleaners are also added into the leaves and vines, so the plant can strike a pose!
